At its Annual Conference in Brighton last Friday, October 16th, UKONS launched a new Genetics Forum for cancer nurses.
The Genetics Forum aims to raise awareness of the importance of genetics in meeting the needs of cancer patients and their families, and to facilitate exchange of news, advice and best practice in cancer genetics. UKONS member Maggie Kirk and Associate member Dr Catherine Bennett from the NHS National Genetics Education & Development Centre were there to participate in the launch.
This followed a keynote paper on the previous day from Audrey Ardern-Jones, a nurse specialist in cancer genetics at the Royal Marsden Hospital. She talked about the developments in genetics and genomics in the post-genome era, emphasising that cancer nurses were ideally placed to incorporate these advances into their practice.
