Doctoral student Sophie John wins 1st prize for poster

Congratulations to Centenary Scholarship student Sophie John for winning 1st prize in the poster completion at the annual USW Postgraduate Research Student Conference on Friday May 16th. Sophie’s poster, Development of a communication framework to investigate women’s understanding of Down syndrome information presented in antenatal screening consultations with midwives outlines the approach she is planning for her programme of study.

Sophie is based in the Genomics Policy Unit and registered as a student in October 2013, after being awarded a full time Centenary Scholarship. Her supervision team includes Prof Maggie Kirk (Director of Studies), Prof Ian Stuart-Hamilton and Dr Emma Tonkin.

On being presented with her prize of a Kindle, Sophie, who has recently returned from a two-week teaching holiday in Rwanda, said “I wasn’t expecting a prize, especially a Kindle! It was a lovely surprise and will be great for future travels.”
