Citizen’s Jury on Genetic Testing for Common Disorders (1997)

In November 1997, members of the GPU organised the first ever Citizen’s Jury in Wales. This approach to lay public involvement in policy making explored future policies for genetic testing for common disorders in the NHS. Fifteen jury members met for four days, during which time they were able to examine evidence, interrogate expert witnesses, debate the issues and arrive at a consensual series of recommendations that were presented to the Human Genetics Advisory Commission in December 1997.
